First Test: 2025 Toyota Camry Hybrid’s New Powertrain Balances Punch and Parsimony

Pasamos una semana y recorrimos 420 millas con un Camry Hybrid XLE AWD 2025 para evaluar el sistema híbrido de quinta generación de Toyota en condiciones reales, centrándonos en la entrega de potencia, la manejabilidad y el consumo de combustible en rutas urbanas, suburbanas y de carretera.

El Camry 2025 ahora es solo híbrido, combinando un motor de 2.5 litros en línea de ciclo Atkinson con el sistema híbrido de quinta generación de Toyota y un eCVT. La potencia se clasifica en 225 hp para los modelos de tracción delantera y 232 hp con el AWD Electrónico bajo demanda, que añade un motor trasero independiente. Una batería de iones de litio se encuentra bajo el asiento trasero para aprovechar el espacio del maletero, y los modos de conducción incluyen Eco, Normal y Sport. Nuestro auto de prueba era un XLE AWD con llantas de 18 pulgadas para todas las estaciones.

La prueba abarcó un recorrido urbano de 32 millas con semáforos frecuentes, una prueba de eficiencia en carretera a 70 mph (62 millas de ida y vuelta) y trayectos mixtos. Las temperaturas ambientales variaron entre 48 y 72 °F, las carreteras estaban secas, y utilizamos combustible de 87 octanos con el control de clima ajustado a 72 °F en modo automático. Verificamos las velocidades mediante GPS y registramos el rendimiento usando un VBox. El nuevo sistema híbrido se siente más potente de lo que sus especificaciones sugieren.

Registramos de 0 a 60 mph en 7.8 segundos y de 30 a 50 mph en 3.9 segundos (kickdown), con el motor trasero contribuyendo a lanzamientos suaves en superficies húmedas. El eCVT mantiene las revoluciones en la parte óptima del rango de potencia sin la sensación de goma elástica de antes; la respuesta del motor está mejor controlada que en los híbridos anteriores del Camry. El modo Sport agudiza la respuesta inicial y mantiene las relaciones de cambio por más tiempo, pero el modo Normal es el más natural para el uso diario. La eficiencia es donde el Camry Hybrid destaca.

Nuestro recorrido urbano mostró 54 mpg indicados (52 mpg calculados en la bomba), favorecido por frecuentes desaceleraciones solo en modo EV hasta 25-30 mph y apagados tempranos del motor. La prueba en carretera a 70 mph logró 45 mpg, consistente en pendientes suaves con el motor trasero mayormente inactivo. A lo largo de las 420 millas de conducción mixta, promediamos 49 mpg. Para referencia, la EPA estima un máximo de 51 mpg combinados para el FWD LE, mientras que nuestro AWD XLE tiene una calificación inferior; nuestros números se alinearon con esas expectativas dado el AWD y las llantas más grandes.

La combinación de frenos está bien ajustada: el recorrido inicial del pedal recoge la regeneración de manera suave antes de pasar a la mordida hidráulica, sin pasos discernibles. Seleccionar “B” aumenta la regeneración en pendientes, pero no permite una conducción real de un solo pedal. La gestión térmica es conservadora: después de arranques en frío, el motor funciona brevemente para proporcionar calor a la cabina, lo que recorta el mpg en los primeros tramos en temperaturas más frescas. A velocidades de autopista, el motor se estabiliza entre 1,600 y 2,000 rpm con cargas ligeras; el ruido en la cabina es moderado, con el sonido de los neumáticos más prominente que el zumbido del tren motriz.

En general, el sistema actualizado del Camry Hybrid 2025 ofrece una ventaja de eficiencia real significativa sin sacrificar el rendimiento. Si la prioridad es maximizar el mpg, el FWD LE con llantas más pequeñas será el mejor; la tracción y refinamiento del AWD XLE vienen con solo una pequeña penalización en consumo. Los conductores sensibles al comportamiento tradicional del CVT apreciarán la respuesta más lineal, mientras que los que viajan diariamente valorarán la tranquilidad y la fluidez del modo EV en el tráfico y las facturas de combustible consistentemente bajas.
