Pasamos tres noches evaluando la iluminación exterior del Subaru Outback Touring XT 2024 en carreteras rurales sin luz y calles suburbanas, centrándonos en el alcance del haz, la calidad del corte, la iluminación en las curvas, el comportamiento del sistema de luces altas automáticas y el deslumbramiento para los conductores que vienen en sentido contrario.

Nuestro coche de pruebas fue un Outback Touring XT 2024 (motor turbo plano de 2.4L, 260 hp/277 lb-ft, CVT, AWD). El paquete de iluminación incluye faros LED proyectores de luz baja/alta con Faros Responsivos a la Dirección (SRH), asistencia automática de luces altas (HBA) y luces antiniebla LED. Los neumáticos eran 225/60R18, y se verificó la alineación de fábrica y la orientación de los faros antes de las pruebas. El peso en vacío con dos ocupantes y 50 lb de carga era aproximadamente de 4,000 lb.

Las pruebas se llevaron a cabo en un circuito seco y sin iluminación de dos carriles (límites de 50–60 mph, 55–70°F) y en un parque industrial cerrado para obtener mediciones repetibles. Usamos un medidor de lux calibrado a la altura de los ojos del conductor y colocamos objetivos retroreflectantes y conos mate a intervalos de 50 m. La alineación se verificó a 25 pies contra un tablero nivelador según la especificación SAE; no fue necesaria ninguna ajuste. El alcance de la luz baja es fuerte para esta clase.

En terreno nivelado, registramos ~1.0 lux a 115–120 m sobre la línea central, con reconocimiento utilizable de obstáculos no reflectantes hasta ~95 m. La dispersión lateral ilumina claramente el arcén derecho y las marcas de carril; el aumento en el lado derecho ayuda a la visibilidad de señales sin sobreiluminar el primer plano. El corte de la luz es nítido con mínima luz errante hacia arriba, y hay poco "punto caliente" en el primer plano, lo que ayuda al contraste de distancia. Sobre las crestas, el haz se mantiene estable con solo un breve movimiento hacia adelante.

Las luces altas extienden el alcance efectivo a aproximadamente 230–250 m sobre la línea central y amplían significativamente el patrón, llenando las líneas de árboles y los arcenes lejanos. La activación automática de las luces altas ocurre de manera consistente a más de ~22 mph, atenuándose dentro de 0.4–0.6 s al detectar faros en sentido contrario y ~0.7–1.0 s para las luces traseras adelante. El sistema es conservador alrededor de tráfico denso y señales reflejantes en altura, bajando ocasionalmente sin necesidad; en tramos rurales oscuros se mantiene conectado de manera confiable. La reactivación después de que el tráfico contrario despeja promedia ~1.2 s, lo que podría ser más rápido en terreno ondulado.

El Outback no cuenta con luces de curva separadas, pero la función SRH rota los faros bajos en un estimado de 12–15° con la entrada de dirección. En curvas a 35–45 mph, el giro empuja el punto caliente hacia la cima del carril, añadiendo ~15–20 m de visibilidad útil dentro de la curva en comparación con proyectores fijos. A velocidades muy bajas (<10 mph), el giro es suave y las luces antiniebla LED no complementan como lo harían las luces de curva dedicadas; la iluminación cercana sigue siendo adecuada para maniobras de estacionamiento ajustadas. El deslumbramiento hacia el tráfico que viene de frente está bien controlado.

Medido a la altura de los ojos de un conductor en sentido contrario (1.1 m) y a 50 m de distancia, vimos 0.4–0.6 lux en luz baja en terreno nivelado, aumentando modestamente sobre crestas pronunciadas, pero no lo suficiente como para provocar recuerdos reales durante nuestro recorrido. La alineación del corte del haz se mantuvo estable con dos ocupantes y carga. En general, este es un conjunto confiado para conducir de noche: excelente disciplina de corte, alcance superior a la media y giro útil. En la lista de deseos: reactivación más rápida del HBA y disponibilidad de haz de conducción adaptativa para un verdadero enmascaramiento de luz alta sin deslumbramiento.
