Box-Tested Utility: 2025 Subaru Outback Onyx XT’s Real Cargo Space, Roof Rack, and Tie-Downs

Pasamos una semana probando el Subaru Outback Onyx Edition XT 2025, centrándonos en el volumen real de carga, la utilidad del portaequipajes y la seguridad de la carga. Utilizando cajas de mudanza estándar, cuantificamos el espacio con los asientos levantados y plegados, y luego montamos una caja de carga grande en las barras transversales de fábrica para evaluar el esfuerzo de instalación, el ruido y el impacto en el consumo de combustible.

El Onyx XT combina el motor turbo de cuatro cilindros planos de Subaru de 2.4 litros (260 hp, 277 lb-ft) con una transmisión CVT y tracción total de serie. Nuestro recorrido de prueba mezcló diligencias urbanas, un trayecto de 200 millas por carretera y múltiples ciclos de carga/descarga en un muelle de almacén. La temperatura rondó los 20°C y estaba seco, lo que nos permitió obtener resultados consistentes. La altura libre del suelo es de 8.7 pulgadas, y con aproximadamente 66 pulgadas de alto, el techo es accesible sin necesidad de un escalón para la mayoría de los adultos.

Las especificaciones de fábrica indican 32.6 pies cúbicos detrás de la segunda fila y un máximo de 75.6 pies cúbicos. Para tener una idea más realista, utilizamos cajas de mudanza pequeñas de 16x12x12 pulgadas (1.33 pies cúbicos cada una) para eliminar conjeturas y optimismo por espacios vacíos. Documentamos dos configuraciones: cargadas hasta la línea del respaldo/parte superior de la tapa del maletero (para visibilidad trasera) y cargadas hasta el techo (suponiendo que hay una barrera de carga). Con la segunda fila levantada, el Outback aceptó 12 cajas hasta la línea de la tapa del maletero (aproximadamente 16.0 pies cúbicos en volumen), gracias a la amplia apertura del hatch, el piso plano y la mínima intrusión de los arcos de las ruedas.

Cargar hasta el techo permitió meter 18 cajas (alrededor de 24.0 pies cúbicos). La discrepancia con el número del folleto es predecible—las cajas no se ensamblan perfectamente, y evitamos aplastar el techo interior y el cableado. La altura de carga es baja y la parte superior del parachoques es resistente a rayones, lo que hizo que cargar repetidamente fuera un proceso sin complicaciones. Al abatir los respaldos 60/40 mediante las palancas del lado del maletero, se logró un piso de carga casi plano.

Logramos meter 36 cajas hasta el techo (alrededor de 48.0 pies cúbicos). La longitud para objetos largos midió un poco más de 74 pulgadas desde el hatch hasta los respaldos de los asientos delanteros en una posición de manejo normal; los esquís y maderas de 8 pies encajaron en diagonal con el asiento del pasajero delantero desplazado hacia adelante. Cuatro anillos metálicos de amarre (uno en cada esquina), dos ganchos para bolsas de supermercado y un tomacorriente de 12V adornan el área de carga; los anillos son lo suficientemente robustos para correas de trinquete, y un contenedor poco profundo bajo el piso mantiene las correas, un botiquín de primeros auxilios y equipo de carretera organizados. Transportar en el techo es donde el Outback brilla en facilidad.

Las barras transversales integradas se despliegan sin herramientas en menos de un minuto, y Subaru califica el rack de serie para 150 lb dinámicos (700 lb estáticos). Montamos un Yakima SkyBox 16 en siete minutos solo; el acceso a las abrazaderas no tuvo obstrucciones, y pudimos colocar la caja lo suficientemente adelante como para despejar el hatch al abrirlo por completo. A 70 mph, la caja añadió un ligero silbido—nuestro medidor vio un aumento de +2 dBA—y la economía de combustible en la carretera bajó de 29 mpg a 26–27 mpg dependiendo del viento. Veredicto: La capacidad medida del Outback en cajas se queda atrás respecto al volumen del folleto—como suele pasar—pero su área de carga cuadrada, baja altura de carga y hardware de amarre confiable hacen que el espacio sea verdaderamente útil.

La simplicidad sin herramientas del rack de fábrica es un gran punto a favor para quienes hacen escapadas de fin de semana y alternan entre un techo vacío y una caja de carga. Si necesitas una mayor capacidad en el techo, considera el Wilderness; si buscas máxima eficiencia en volumen interior, una minivan aún es la mejor opción. Para tareas familiares mixtas y equipo de aventura, esta es una recomendación fácil.
