Brake Test: 2024 Honda Civic Type R Stopping Performance, Fade, and Pedal Feel

Hicimos pruebas a un Honda Civic Type R 2024 de serie para medir el rendimiento de sus frenos en condiciones reales: distancias de frenado de 100 a 0 km/h y de 60 a 0 mph, sensación del pedal, modulación y desvanecimiento tras múltiples frenadas. Esta es una evaluación detallada de los frenos basada en pruebas controladas, más que en una reseña general de carretera.

Nuestro coche de prueba es un Civic Type R 2024 (FL5) de especificaciones estadounidenses, equipado con neumáticos Michelin Pilot Sport 4S de fábrica, tamaño 265/30ZR19. Tiene pinzas de freno Brembo de cuatro pistones que sujetan discos ventilados de dos piezas de 350 mm en la parte delantera y discos ventilados de 305 mm con un solo pistón en la parte trasera. Su peso en vacío, con medio tanque, fue de 3,210 lb (1,456 kg). El líquido de frenos era de fábrica con especificaciones DOT 3/4, y las pastillas eran OEM con 3,100 millas. Las pruebas se realizaron en una pista cerrada y nivelada (0.3% de inclinación), con una temperatura ambiente de 72°F y una ligera brisa cruzada de 5 a 8 mph.

Las presiones de los neumáticos se ajustaron en frío a 35 psi en la parte delantera y 33 psi en la trasera, y se igualaron en caliente a 37/35. Utilizamos un Racelogic VBOX para medir distancia, velocidad y g longitudinal, y un termómetro infrarrojo en las caras de los discos entre las pruebas. Cada serie comenzó con dos frenadas moderadas de 70 a 20 mph para asentar las pastillas y llevar los neumáticos a su temperatura de operación. Los mejores resultados de frenada en una sola parada fueron: 60–0 mph en 104 pies (31.7 m) y 100–0 km/h en 108 pies (32.9 m).

Promediando las tres mejores corridas consistentes se obtuvo 60–0 mph en 106 pies (32.3 m) y 100–0 km/h en 110 pies (33.5 m). La desaceleración máxima alcanzó 1.07 g, con un promedio de 0.99–1.01 g a lo largo de la ventana de frenado. El coche se mantuvo estable como una flecha, con vibraciones mínimas del ABS y solo un leve cabeceo hacia adelante; el equilibrio de frenado se sintió neutro, sin bloqueo temprano en la parte trasera ni deslizamiento en los PS4S. La sensación del pedal es reconfortante: una mordida firme al inicio con un aumento progresivo, lo que facilita despegar pequeñas velocidades y entrar en el ABS completo sin una transición brusca.

El recorrido del pedal es corto, con un punto de presión claramente definido, y la cadencia del ABS es lo suficientemente fina como para que puedas mantenerte justo por debajo en superficies de alto agarre. La frenada en curva en segunda marcha mostró una excelente modulación: los cambios de presión se traducen de manera lineal a la desaceleración sin picos impredecibles. La resistencia a la decoloración se probó con 10 paradas consecutivas de 100–0 km/h, con intervalos de 30 segundos. Las distancias aumentaron de 110 pies (33.5 m) en la primera a 116 pies (35.4 m) en la octava, estabilizándose en 117 pies (35.7 m) en la décima—un aumento del 6%.

Las temperaturas máximas de las caras de los discos alcanzaron 360–380°C en la parte delantera y 240–260°C en la trasera. Notamos un ligero aumento en el recorrido del pedal después de la sexta parada, pero sin esponjamiento ni pérdida de mordida; el rendimiento del ABS se mantuvo constante, y hubo un leve olor a freno, pero sin humo. Un enfriamiento de cinco minutos devolvió el pedal a su altura original. En general, el sistema de serie del Civic Type R ofrece paradas cortas y repetibles, con excelente modulación y un desvanecimiento moderado en un uso agresivo apropiado para la calle.

Para un uso intensivo en pista, un líquido de frenos de alta temperatura (por ejemplo, DOT 4 de competición), líneas de acero inoxidable y un compuesto de pastillas orientado a pista añadirían un margen térmico. En la carretera, el paquete OEM inspira confianza y es predecible, siempre que los neumáticos estén en buen estado y las presiones estén ajustadas correctamente.
