Brake Test Deep-Dive: 2024 Honda Civic Type R Stopping Performance

Realizamos pruebas de frenado instrumentadas en el Honda Civic Type R 2024 para cuantificar las distancias de 100 a 0 km/h y de 60 a 0 mph, y para evaluar la sensación del freno, la resistencia a la desvanecimiento y la modulación del pedal durante paradas fuertes repetidas.

Nuestro auto de prueba es un Honda Civic Type R 2024 (FL5), con 315 hp y 310 lb-ft provenientes de un motor turboalimentado de 2.0 litros, transmisión manual de seis velocidades, que pesa 1,430 kg (con combustible) y 1,470 kg con conductor y equipo de datos. El sistema de frenos incluye discos ventilados delanteros de dos piezas de 350 mm sujetados por pinzas Brembo de cuatro pistones y traseros ventilados de 305 mm. Los neumáticos son Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, especificación Honda, 265/30ZR19 en todas las ruedas. Las pruebas se realizaron en una pista de asfalto cerrada y nivelada (coeficiente ~1.0) a una temperatura ambiente de 18–20°C, con un leve viento cruzado.

Utilizamos un Racelogic VBOX para medir velocidad y distancia, con presiones de neumáticos de 36 psi fríos/39 psi calientes, y pastillas/fluidos originales. Después de asentarlas, realizamos cinco paradas consecutivas de 100 a 0 km/h y cinco de 60 a 0 mph, separadas por 30–40 segundos, sin vueltas de enfriamiento más allá de la curva de salida. Resultados: la mejor parada de 100 a 0 km/h se midió en 34.9 m, con un promedio de cinco paradas de 36.2 m. La mejor parada de 60 a 0 mph fue de 108 pies, promediando 112 pies en cinco.

La desaceleración máxima alcanzó 1.14 g, con un plateau estable de 1.02 a 1.06 g durante la parte media de la parada. El auto se mantuvo recto con un mínimo de movimiento; la activación del ABS fue rápida y bien controlada, evitando el pulso brusco que se siente en algunos competidores. La inclinación del frente es notable, pero está bien controlada por los amortiguadores adaptativos, manteniendo la parte trasera en su sitio. La sensación de los frenos es un punto destacado.

La mordida inicial es firme sin ser brusca, y el pedal aumenta el esfuerzo de manera lineal en la mitad superior de su recorrido, lo que facilita reducir la velocidad con precisión. La modulación es excelente cerca del umbral; puedes estar al borde del ABS sobre baches sin desestabilizar el chasis. En conducción mixta por la calle, estas mismas cualidades se traducen en paradas limpias e inspiradoras de confianza sin que haya brusquedad a baja velocidad. La resistencia a la fatiga demostró ser fuerte para las pastillas originales de calle.

En las cinco paradas de 100 a 0 km/h, la distancia aumentó 1.9 m de la mejor a la peor; de 60 a 0 mph se amplió en 6 pies. El recorrido del pedal se alargó ligeramente en el cuarto y quinto ciclo, pero la firmeza se mantuvo alta y no hubo esponjosidad. Las lecturas de infrarrojos mostraron que las temperaturas de los discos delanteros subieron de ~120°C después del asentamiento a ~360–380°C tras la secuencia final; no hubo olor a pastillas quemadas hasta el final, y no hubo cambio en la cadencia del ABS. Una secuencia separada de tres desaceleraciones de 110 a 40 mph replicó los resultados, sugiriendo un rendimiento térmico repetible.

En general, el paquete de frenos del Civic Type R está listo para días de pista desde el primer momento para sesiones cortas y es excepcional en la carretera. Para vueltas intensas en clima caluroso, un fluido de alta temperatura y un compuesto de pastillas más agresivo agregarían margen, pero la mayoría de los conductores estarán encantados con las distancias cortas y consistentes, el pedal lineal y la excelente modulación. Si valoras la confianza y el control bajo presión, este sistema cumple sin drama.
